Frozen Certainty

Keith Sanford

Far as the stars and yet close as my fingers,
Ponder a mystery I fail to understand.
Straining to see while the light faintly lingers,
Reaching to hold, try to grasp it with my hand.
My eyes are not perfect, but still I have sight,
And I want a portion of knowledge and light.

Speaking and thinking in different directions,
Each new perspective may differ from my own.
Carefully listening with tender affection,
Seeking to learn and to see what I am shown.
My eyes are not perfect, but still I have sight,
And I want a portion of knowledge and light.

Gazing upon all that is God’s creation,
Trembling in awe at the wonders that I see.
Now, through the smoke there’s a flame of revelation,
Melting the pride of my frozen certainty.
My eyes are not perfect, but still I have sight,
And I want a portion of knowledge and light.
